Life at the conference

All the delegations arrived the 13th of May between the morning and the evening.

My own delegation arrived much dispersed; half of the delegation (Catalonia and Madrid) arrived at 17:00 after walking from the metro station (20 minutes’ walk).  Then, people from Basque Country and Canary Islands arrived at the time we were presenting all the countries by their self, by 21:30. Finally, the girls from Galicia arrived by 1:00 the 14th of May, because they had some problems with their train/plane/bus.

We are sleeping in 3 different rooms, 2 in the 4th floor and 1 at the 3rd floor (the girl’s one).

In our delegation, we have celebrated 2 persons’ birthdays, one was on the 14th and the other was in the 15th. It was a good coincidence that the 15th we could go to Brussels and we celebrated both birthdays at the same time in the restaurant singing “Happy birthday”.
At the night, we spent our free time together in the boys’ room or in the girls’ room and we are talking about our things until we go to sleep like at 2 or 3 o’clock.

Before we start the working days, we presented each other and at dinner time we put some typical food of each country.

1st day
Lots of people were boring at the opening conference because we didn’t sleep too much the night before and we have lot of fun, before starting it, putting the camera to appear in the little TV we had in front of us.
Then, we had the lunch, and here we have some commentaries that people said:
                                                              1st and 3rd day
-“The food is good and I like that we can choose what we eat and how much you want to eat”.
-“Is really good idea that we can choose the meal. The better thing is the dessert”.
                                                                   2nd day
-“There is an excess of spices and there is little variety of fruit to choose from”.
Then we started with the thematic workshops.
Each person went to a different workshop like consumption, natural resources, solidarity…
We discussed about some responsibilities and, before starting and at the break, we did some games.
After that, we go by groups to form some questions to ask to politicians the next day.
Then we saw the body percussion here and, at the night in the place we stay, some people teach us how to do the body percussion.
We celebrated our first day in Brussels and also the birthday of Rocío, one Spanish delegate, and we talked until we felt asleep, they were like 3 o’clock.

2nd day
The next morning we were very tired because we hadn’t sleep too much, so we were sleepy when we spoke to the politicians.
Just after that, all the groups go to visit the Parliament.
We went to lunch when we returned from the visit, and the meal was worse than the day before.
Next we had an activity called World Café, that consisted in writing actions for each thematic workshop and after we had to choose 2 actions.
We were hoping to finish electing the 2 actions because we spent a lot of time to do it and some of us had back pain, leg pain…
We were really happy when we ended this activity.
Then we started the educommunication/ scientific workshops so we could continue them the next day
After that we learned the body percussion show we will do in the European Parliament Square.
Then we go to the centre of the city to dinner and we also had some time to go shopping and see a little bit of the city.
The dinner was really funny because we did an African tradition that it consisted in feeding another person the first time that the person ate.
We had a lot of fun and also we take the opportunity to celebrate Victor’s birthday (a Spanish delegate) in the restaurant.

3rd day
Today we are finalising the educommunication workshops/ scientific workshop and after that we will go to the closing ceremony that we hope that the politicians listen to us and also we want to show all the work we have done this 3 days.
In my opinion, today’s night party will be really great and all we’ll have lot of fun.
Also I think that tomorrow it’s going to be a really sad day, because we have met lots of new people and friends and we don’t want to say goodbye to them.
I also asked to some people about the conference and what they think about it, also I’ve made some people to rate some features of the conference.

CONFERENCE RATING

WORK AT THE CONFERENCE
Most people said it was good, that we had worked a lot. Most people said, from 1 to 10, that they give an 8 the work did in the conference.

ORGANIZATION
It has a good organization of the activities and specific time for each activity and they follow the timetable they had made. Most people voted, from 1 to 10, 7-8.

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PEOPLE IN THE CONFERENCE (EASY TO UNDERSTAND OTHER PEOPLE BY TRANSLATORS):
“If you don’t understand what they said, most of the times you have someone near that explains you what they said, so can participate more and not just stand there and listen to someone that you don’t understand”-said a delegate.
Almost everyone asked, agrees whit that sentence just said before so that is the reason why people voted, from 1 to 10, a 10.

To finalise, I asked to people what they think about the conference and to give me his personal opinion about what they lived here.
-I found the conference very dynamic, always active and highly motivating activities such as “body percussion”.
The communication between people has been really good organized by using translators. We have always been with translators if we had some doubt.
-This conference has been really entertaining for me, and a source of knowledge. Thanks to it I could met people from other countries and his cultures, even that we couldn’t communicate very well, because we speak different languages (when we were in our free time). It has been a pleasure to be here and to know new people.
-This is something everyone should do; I mean the communication between people, the great teachers and the good workshops, well, a happy condition!
